ATC Williams Sponsor AusIMM International Women’s Day Event

To mark International Women’s Day 2021, AusIMM ran a series of luncheons in five Australian capital cities attended by 1600 people. Each luncheon featured presentations from high-profile keynote speakers.

These presentations aligned with the 2021 International Women’s Day theme of #ChooseToChallenge to inspire attendees on how we can choose to challenge gender stereotypes, celebrate women’s achievements, and collectively create an inclusive world.

ATC Williams was a proud sponsor of the Victorian event held in Melbourne on Friday 12th March. The event was attended by Genevieve New (Senior Associate Engineer), Heather Wardlaw (Senior Associate Engineer), Meri Sadeghipour (Senior Engineer), Nicola Logan (Principal Engineer), and Sarah Moein (Senior Engineer). The Keynote speaker at the Melbourne event was Shadé Zahrai, award-winning leadership and mindset strategist.

“It was an incredible experience to attend the AusIMM International Women’s day event. I felt honoured to celebrate the achievements of women and champion diversity and inclusion in the industry and the world while listening to inspiring speakers sharing their stories.

We made new contacts in the mining community and reconnected with colleagues and industry peers. Not to mention how exciting it was to attend an in-person event after one year of only meeting people online!

Being surrounded by inspiring women reminded me that although we are still few women in the industry, together, we have enough power to make changes and pave the way for women everywhere to enjoy equity of opportunities and choices. I left feeling empowered and encouraged to be the best I can be.

I believe that a part of the challenge we face today is the assumption that there is no problem and that we do have equality. This is not true. There are still several conscious and unconscious challenges in the industry and society at large, and we need to tackle this to make real changes.

Special thanks to ATC Williams for the opportunity to attend and beyond that for sponsoring such events, supporting women, and choosing to challenge and change gender bias and inequality.”Meri Sadeghipour
